Recently, the Academic and Cultural Study Tour to Swinburne University of Technology for 2024, which was jointly held by SDUST and Swinburne University of Technology of Australia for promoting the development of Swinburne College and guiding students to understand Swinburne University of Technology and acquaint themselves with the overseas studying and living environment, came to a successful conclusion, and the 37 students returned smoothly.
Attaching great importance to the study tour, Swinburne University of Technology held a welcome ceremony for the study tour group on Jan. 22nd. Vice President Dr.Douglas Proctor delivered a speech. He extended warm welcome to the study tour group, described in detail the basic information of Swinburne University of Technology, and the study of the first batch of students in the “2+2” program, and congratulated beforehand a complete success of the study tour.
The study tour lasted for 15 days. The time was tight, but the contents were rich, including language study, academic lectures, cultural exchanges, intensive study, and group interaction. During the study tour, Swinburne University of Technology arranged more than 10 leaning lectures, involving English language, business English, academic lectures, career planning, and so on. They strengthened the students’ ability in English oral expression, English business negotiation, business email writing, curriculum vitae writing, and employment interview skills. Through visiting Swinburne University of Technology, and laboratories such as Future Factory, and Advanced Manufacturing and Design Center, they students gained a more intuitive understanding of the educational environment and experimental facilities of Swinburne University of Technology. Through visiting National Gallery of Victoria and experiencing the cultural life with Melbourne characteristics, the students perceived exotic cultures and living habits. Through interacting with international students, they expanded their horizons, and improved their ability of cross-cultural communication.
After the activity, the students getting a full harvest shared their experience about the study tour joyfully, saying that through the activity, they gained a understanding of the local customs of Australia, improved knowledge, expanded their horizons, enhanced their ability to solve problems independently, and became more confident about their future study abroad.
Before the departure, the International Office of Jinan Campus united with the Department of Student Affairs & Youth League to hold two guidance meetings, instructing the students to handle travel procedures, seek unity of thinking and strengthen safety awareness. During the study tour, the teachers and students studied, visited and lived together, and team management was implemented to guarantee the smooth progress of the study tour.
